CFL Bulbs VS LED Bulbs

Bismillahirahmanirrahim
Assalammualaikum wbt.

COMPACT FLUORESCENT LAMP @ CFL

A compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) is a fluorescent lamp designed to replace an incandescent light bulb. Some types fit into light fixtures designed for an incandescent bulbs. The lamps use a tube which is curved or folded to fit into space of an incandescent bulb and a compact electronic ballast in the base of the lamp.

ADVANTAGES OF COMPACT FLUORESCENT LAMP (CFL)

Cost-effective:

They may cost more at first but they are actually less expensive in the long run because they last longer than incandescent bulbs. They can help you to cut down a substantial amount of your bills because they consume 60% less energy compare to incandescent bulbs.

Efficient:

They are 400% more efficient than incandescent bulbs. This means you can replace your non-efficient 100-watt incandescent bulbs with 22-watt CFL to produce exactly same amount of light with less energy used

Produce Less Heat:

More of the energy drawn by a CFL is converted into visible light while less of it is converted into wasteful heat. It is proved that this can lower air-conditioning costs in establishment and homes that changing from incandescent bulb with CFL units

DISADVANTAGES OF COMPACT FLUORESCENT LAMP (CFL)

They contain mercury:

This is the most concerning drawback of CFL users especially among environmentally conscious users. It works best and safely when it is being used. The problem comes when the bulbs are broken or not disposed correctly

Affected By Weather:
Cold weather may affect its brightness. The bulb gives off dim light in situation that are cold including in garages.

Trouble With Dimmer Switches:

CFL usually can’t be used with a dimmer switch, a device that dims and softens light due to CFL bulbs’ initial warm up time.

LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE @ LED

A light-emitting diode is a semiconductor device that produces light from electricity. They last longer and doesn’t break easily. They can produce many different colors. They are efficient since most of the energy makes light, not heat.

ADVANTAGES OF LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE

More Efficient:

LED bulbs use less energy compared to incandescent and fluorescent lamps. By reducing energy consumption, we can avoid or at least delay costly upgrades to city power distribution circuits. These could also reduce dependence on foreign oil and overly rapid depletion of domestic natural resources.

Produce Less Heat:
Since more energy drawn is converted into visible light, less is transmuted into wasteful heat. This can lower air-conditioning costs in establishments and homes that using LED bulbs instead of CFL bulbs.

More Environmental Friendly:

LED bulbs contain no hazardous gasses and are difficult to break accidentally. LED bulb should be recycled but since appropriate recycling stations have not yet been set up in many areas, the consumer must store them until such facilities become available

DISADVANTAGES OF LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE

Heavy Compared To Other Bulbs Or Lamps:
Most LED bulbs contain an integrated metal heat sink. It makes them heavier than similarly sized filament and CFL lamps. Since it is heavier, the weights are added to the overall expense of the bulb and cause the shipping costs increase

Can’t be Thrown Into The Trash:

Burned-out LED bulbs are considered hazardous waste due to its printed circuit boards and other contain. However, since LED bulbs are moving into the main stream markets. Government are in planning to set up recycling stations and services for proper disposal

It Costs More:

LED bulbs are more expensive than traditional light sources but despite its longer lifespan. Investing more in LED bulbs might be a good idea and at the same time it also consumes less energy than the old type of lighting but during the operation of one LED light source of good quality, we would be forced to purchase minimum 5-10 old type bulbs which would not necessarily result in savings our wallet.

So..which is more energy-efficient? Which bulb is the best? For me LED bulbs are more energy-efficient compared to CFL bulbs. Although it costs more, I think it’s best choice for energy-efficient light bulbs on the market. How about you? Let me know in the comments.
